Rich in ranching heritage, the Silver Spur Ranch has operations in Wyoming, New Mexico and Colorado.  Today, the ranch is ranked as the ninth largest commercial cattle operation in the U.S. and is home to a progressive ranch operation and outfitting services.  The ranches are steeped with natural beauty and managers continually work as conservationists and land stewards.   It is our mission and challenge to raise cattle that will fit multiple ranch environments and ultimately provide a positive beef product for consumers.

While our ranches date as far back as the 1800’s we are an operation who embraces technology, research and success for future generations.  With each tradition of the past, we embody the opportunity to create new traditions and efficiencies that will ensure these ranches for generations to come.

The Silver Spur Ranch headquarters are based at Encampment, Wyoming.  The ranch divisions are surrounded by stunning mountain views.  During the summer, cattle graze on forest / mountain allotments, meadows or native sage brush country.  In early fall, cattle are trailed or hauled to spend winter months closer to home ranch locations.  Ranch divisions include:  Head Quarters, Cow Creek, Hanging Bull, Elk Hollow, Bar M, VX, Mill Iron and Cedar Creek.    Northern Colorado divisions are in the Walden area and include these divisions:  Lone Pine, Canadian, Big Horn, Three Rivers, and Diamond J.  Registered Charolais, Angus, Red Angus and Range Fire composites are run on the Hanging Bull and Mill Iron divisions.  Commercial cattle run on the remaining ranches.

One of New Mexico’s most historic ranches, the T.O. Ranch, was founded in 1864 and purchased by the Silver Spur Ranches in 1999.  It lies between Clayton and Raton, New Mexico.  In its early history, the T.O. was home to one of the country’s most famous Hereford herds.  Today, large mesas and expanses of flat grassland couple together for a scenic and productive operation.  The T.O. is home to a large commercial cowherd.

The Kiowa Creek division of Silver Spur Ranches is spread amongst Elbert, El Paso and Douglas counties in central Colorado.  As the largest registered Angus breeder in the state, Kiowa Creek serves as a seedstock provider for Angus genetics to outside customers, the Silver Spur Ranches and the T.O. Ranch.  Kiowa Creek also runs a commercial Angus herd using Charolais bulls.

Conservation and positive land stewardship is a primary focus on all of the Silver Spur Ranches.  In order to provide ranching opportunities for generations to come, we strive to maintain the ecological balance between nature and our ranching operations.  We work to manage our rangelands in manner that is beneficial to wildlife and wildlife habitats.  At the same time, projects such as streambed restorations are incorporated into our management plans.
