In the large Silver Spur Ranches’ commercial cow herds we raise our own replacement females and annually feed several thousand head in commercial feedyards.  This production process lends to our genetic philosophy….. “We strive to produce low to moderate maintenance cattle that can be profitable in each segment of the beef industry.” 

Not only do we understand the challenges commercial cattlemen face, we are commercial cattlemen! 

This in turn has dictated the direction of our seedstock programs.  Continually, we recognize the importance of matching our mother cow to her environment and natural resources…in both our commercial and registered herds.  This means we select for fertility, soundness, moderate birth weights and optimum not maximum growth / milk.  At the same time, we maintain selection pressure for efficiency and muscle.

You will not find creep feeders or genetic programs that follow fads and fashions at Silver Spur Ranch.  You will find, real-world, hard working cow herds that are challenged by selection pressure, the environment and our actual feedlot/carcass data.
